Desde 1873 fueron muy comunes los levantamientos de Insurrectos, a los que el Ejercito Español tuvo que hacer frente, especialmente en el interior de la isla, donde se establecieron diversas fortificaciones, como la Trocha del Oeste del Jucaro a Morón, donde se destinaban las diversas guarniciones para hacer frente a estas revueltas que tras varios años de hostilidades se llega en 1878 a la Paz de Zauyon, con la capitulación del Ejercito Libertador de Cuba.
